Shuri castle (Trip to Okinawa, 2011.1.5-7)

On the first day, we've been to Shuri castle, which was the place of the Ryukyu Kingodom. It was built during the Gusuku period. When King Sho Hashi unified the three sections of Okinawa and established the Ryukyu Kingdom. He used Shuri Castle as a residence. For 450 years, it was the royal court and administrative center of the Ryukyuan Kingdom. It was beautiful day^^ We caught our breath over a can of Orion beer & sheekwasa juice, both of which are local product in Okinawa.

最初の日は、首里城へ。首里城は、三山時代には中山の城として用いられていたことが確認されている。尚巴志が三山を統一し琉球王朝を立てると、首里城を王家の居城として用いるようになった。同時に首里は首府として栄え、第二尚氏においても変えられることはなかった。天気のいい日だったんで、沖縄特産のオリオンビールとシークワーサージュースを手に、一息です。

Churaumi Aquarium (Trip to Okinawa, 2011.1.5-7)

On the second day, we took bus tour which is organized by Rado tour company to go to Churaumi Aquarium. With its enormous capacity, a gigantic tank called The Kuroshio Sea Tank (picture above) the largest fish in the world, the whale shark, and the world's first successfully bred-in-captivity manta can also be seen. Moreover, you can experience the sea of Okinawa when you journey into the deep sea attraction, which recreates Okinawa's mystery-enshrouded deep sea. We took a bunch of fish pics with single-lens reflex camera.

２日目、ラド観光会社が主催するバス・ツアーで、美ら海水族館へ。メインスポットは、やっぱり、巨大なタンクの、黒潮の海水槽でしょ。ジンベエザメ、マンタ、キハダ、カツオの群れを眺めることができます。迫力満点の海水槽です。動く魚こそ、一眼レフで、連続シャッターと、パノラマ設定で！と張り切って撮るが、なかなか写真って難しいですね。

Nokonoshima island: Cosmos

We have been to Nokonoshima Island again. The park was filled with nanohana last March. It is filled with colourful cosmos in autumn. pink, red, and white flowers contrast with the blue ocean and sky. It was magnificent. Since he bought a single- lense reflex camera, taking pictures has become something of our hobby. Walking in cosmos garden, we took cosmos pictures, bring the camera into different focuses. Pictures are quite different from what we see with our own eyes.

★Japanese★のこの島へ。前回は、菜の花がきれいな春に行きましたが、秋は、このコスモスが満開です。海と空の青と、赤やピンクのコスモスとのコントラストは最高です。彼が一眼レフのデジカメを購入してから、かなり、カメラにハマってます。フォーカスを変えると、本当に色んな写真が撮れるんですね～。カメラを通してみる景色って、私たちの目で知覚しているものとかなり違うんですよね。

When I put my feet into water, they started to kiss my skin.... ewe ....
They completely get rid of skin smear. haha.. 15 min... i just kept looking at them kissing my feet. well, when i got done, I felt my feet very smooth. yaay ! 15 min for 1000 yen. Give it a try!

Night Market : snack (Trip to Taiwan: No2)

Conference committee organized the short trip to Night Market in Taichun. Two Taiwan uni students were kind enough to take us around the market, explaining all yummy Taiwan traditional snack. Night markets are one of the highlights of Taiwanese life. They offer many stuff, such as snack, trendy clothing, shoes, bags, watches with very reasonable price. So, I bought beautiful hand made bag and trendy black jacket. hehe ^~^
Night markets are also famous for their specialty food items, called xiao chi. The one I liked the most was traditional Taiwan hamburger (left on the pic). very soft white ban with egg, pork, and vegi. It was much much better than MacDonald.... Thanks guys !

大会の委員会がオーガナイズしてくれた、Night Market ツアーに参加しました。2人のとってもキュートな大学生が、夜市場を案内してくれ、おいしい台湾のスナックをたくさん紹介してれました。夜市場は、台湾生活のハイライトの一つ！何でも売ってるんですね、しかもかなりお得な値段で。ハンドメイドのとっても可愛らしいバッグと、黒のジャケットを購入しました。日本で買ったら、三倍の値だろうな！
そして、夜市場で食べたスナックの中で、私が一番好きだったのは、左の写真の、台湾式ハンバーガー（ベーコン、卵、野菜入り）。マックよりおいしいやん。有難うね、大学生のみなさん。

It has been a long time since I went to Kumamoto. Kumamoto city is quite different what I thought. It is the place for sightseeing. On the “Kyushu Shinkansen”, scheduled to open for service in 2011, the trip between Hakata and Kumamoto will be 35 minutes. So, the local government have spent a lot of money to attract tourists. "Touch Navi" is very convenient tool to get information just by touching with cell phone. Try it !

本丸御殿の最深部には、中国の故事に出てくる王昭君の絵画（襖絵とも屏風絵ともいわれる）のある「昭君之間（しょうくんのま）」と呼ばれる部屋があった。この部屋には鶯張りの廊下や外へと通じる隠し通路があったといい、藩主の居間として使われていたようだが、一説によると、豊臣家の有事に際し秀吉の子秀頼を密かに匿うために造られた部屋であるといわれている。“しょうくん”＝“しょうぐん”（将軍）の意とする説がある（当時は濁点を打たないので、仮名で書けば同一になる）。表面上は天下人の徳川家康に恭順しながらも、秀吉への恩を忘れない清正の忠義を示しているのだという。

Kumamoto castle is located in the centre of Kumamoto city. So, you can see it from shopping area. Kumamoto Castle is considered one of the three premier castles in Japan, along with Himeji Castle and Nagoya Castle. The original castle took seven years to construct, and was completed in 1607, by Kiyomasa Kato. In its prime, the castle had 49 turrets, 18 turret gates, and 29 castle gates, all contained within a circumference of 5.3 km of stone walls.

We have been to Nokonishima island park, which is a delightful place for colorful flowers. After 10 minutes, the ferry brought us to the small island, Nokonoshima. It is about 3.93 km　and 800 people. When we were walking along the street and talking about field mustard, we reached the flower garden filled with field mustard. Yellow flower and pink cherry blossom with blue ocean. absolutely beautiful^^

★English★ We have been to Moji port, where the Moji banana sellers have traditionally performed their song (banana no tatakiuri) near the station. Nowadays, Moji port is also famous for baked curry rice^^ We have been to the original restaurant called "curry hompo", which can be found on Kawabata shop street. It was very cold, when we visited there. So, hot baked curry rice got us out of the cold!! On the way back, we met street entertainer who performed with rubber, fireball, and yo-yo. He was 23 years old and impressed us with his passion.

After the conference at Kyoto university, I visited Ginkaku temple, which is one of the famous temples in Kyoto, Japan. There were a full of tourists from overseas.

Ginkaku temple was not originally a temple. Ashikaga Yoshimasa (1436-1490), the 8th Ashikaga Shogun began construction in 1460 but was prevented from immediately completing his retirement villa due to the Onin Wars (1467-1477).
Ginkaku became Yoshimasa's escape from the ravages of the civil war. Yoshimasa relocated to Higashiyamadono in 1483 and lived there, holding Noh plays, tea ceremonies, and enjoying things of an aesthetic nature until his death in 1490. By 1490 a total of 12 buildings and an expansive garden had been completed.

We had a short trip to Nami island (20/9~21/9). What a beautiful day. It is taken just before getting into the ferry heading to Nami island.

Buk-Han river and Cheong-Pyeong dam are located in 63km north along the Han River which runs all the way to Seoul, capital of Korea. On the river, lies half-moon-shaped Nami Island, looking like a floating leaf on the river. The circumference of the island is approximately 5km and its land area is 460,000m.

Innie's mother made us delicious Korean dishes !!! Thanks, mum!!!
My favorite dish is "Japchae", which made from cellophane noodles (called dangmyeon), stir fried in sesame oil with and various vegetables. japchae literally means "a mixture of vegetables."It is similar to Japanese "harusame" but the texture of noodle is more sticky. She gave me a bunch of noodle when i went back to Japan !!
ya!! I try to make it for dinner tomorrow.

Uradomi Rock Cliffs

Ifound the beautiful picture of Uradome Coast in the tour guide book. So, i asked the old lady, waiting for the bus coming, how to get there....... I took city bus to get to the Uradome Coast. The Uradome Coast near the eastern end of Tottori Prefecture puts the rest all of to shame with one of the best beaches in Japan.
One way to enjoy Uradome is to take a tour boat around the cliffs and beaches. The Uradome Coast Island Tour leaves from a dock just west of the Uradome Coast and is a guided 40 minute ride.

In comparison with this magnificient sund dunes, human beings look so tiny. Being in sund dunes, i was free from my worries. thank, god~
The dunes were created by sediment deposits carried from the Chūgoku Mountains by the Sendai River into the Sea of Japan. Sea currents and wind help bring the sand from the bottom up onto the shore, where the wind constantly rearranges their shape. The dunes have existed for over 100,000 years, but the area of the dunes has been steadily decreasing due to a government reforestation program following World War II. Additionally, concrete barriers erected to protect the coast (the part of Sanin Kaigan National Park) from tsunamis have disrupted the currents responsible for bringing the sand to shore. It attract a significant amount of tourism to the area. The lasting ability for these efforts to protect the dunes is as of yet unknown. Each year, around two million visitors—mostly from within Japan and East Asia—visit the dunes.

To attend J-SLA annual conference, we have been to Tokyo during the weekend. On Friday, we visited Roppongi Hills, which was constructed by building tycoon Minoru Mori, the mega-complex incorporates office space, apartments, shops, restaurants, cafés, movie theaters, a museum, a hotel, a major TV studio, an outdoor amphitheater, and a few parks. The centerpiece is the 54-story Mori Tower. Mori's stated vision was to build an integrated development where high-rise inner-urban communities allow people to live, work, play, and shop in proximity to eliminate commuting time. He argued that this would increase leisure time, quality of life, and benefit Japan's national competitiveness.

Bulguksa is a Buddhist temple in the North Gyeongsang province in South Korea. It is home to seven National treasures of South Korea, including Dabotap and Seokgatap stone pagodas, Cheongun-gyo (Blue Cloud Bridge), and two gilt-bronze statues of Buddha. The temple is classified as Historic and Scenic Site No. 1 by the South Korean government. In 1995, Bulguksa was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List together with the Seokguram Grotto, which lies four kilometers to the east.
The temple is considered as a masterpiece of the golden age of Buddhist art in the Silla kingdom. It is currently the head temple of the 11th district of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism.

We have been to Yuyuan Graden, which is a classical garden in Shanghai. Wow.... there are full of tourists..... Some of the Chinese asked me and my mother in Japanese.... "Chotto dake, mite! " They sell gold accessory, bags, etc..... hmm... Japanese are rich ? It gives me a shit !!! very annoying....

anyway, a classical garden was awesome.

Yuyuan Garden is a famous classical garden located in Anren Jie, Shanghai. The garden was finished in 1577 by a government officer of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) named Pan Yunduan. Yu in Chinese means pleasing and satisfying, and this garden was specially built for Pan's parents as a place for them to enjoy a tranquil and happy time in their old age.

In the 13th-century Malay Annals, Sang Nila Utama, a prince from Palembang was shipwrecked and washed ashore to an island. There he saw a creature which he believed was a lion. So he named the island "Singa Pura" which means "Lion City" in Malay, from which the name Singapore was derived.

My flatmate, Ameily's birthday. We have been to German restaurant in Rocks, Lowenbrau Keller.

The Lowenbrau provides great service with massive meals and a variety of beer. I tried Mango beer.. a bit sweet ~~ love it !!!!

The entertainment is awesome and provides a good atmosphere for kids and adults. They had beer competition, dancing, and playing music..

We had a great time there.

Well.... sit down on the lawn...A tagger touches their heads and say " duck.. duck.. duck.." and "goose" stop !! when you are called as goose, stand up !! you will be chased.. if you sit on your place again... Smart Board !!! computer is connected to the board. soo.... teachers just touch the board and delete, paste, and copy the words quickly.... very SMART..... In the class, kids were playing with SNOW WHITE story.

I found the board written by Aboligines on World Youth days. I just remeber what my sharemate warned me the other day... "hey, please lock the door !! sometiems, aboliginal children get into the room and steal the things... BE CAREFUL" ..... well.. why do aboliginal chidlren steal things?? First, they dont have enough money to buy things.. Secondly, in their society, they share everything....

Aboligines are still suffering... after 200 years.. can you see any changes ???

Breathtaking scenery >-<The Three Sisters(story from Aborigines) : Long ago, a clever old man called Tyawan lived in the mountains. He had three daughters-Meenhi, Wimlah and Gunnedoo. When he went hunting,he would tell his daughters to stay on the clifftop, safe from Bunyip, who lived deep in the valley. One day, Meenhi knocked a rock over the cliff-it crashed into the valley, walking Bunyip, who charged up the cliff toward terrified girls. Tyawan could not reach them in time and so he changed them into rocks.
Blue mountain: 　The name derives from the blueish tinge the range takes on when viewed at a distance, which is caused by the release of volatile oils from eucalyptus forests.
Scenic Railway: From the bottom of the Jamison Valley, board the Scenic Railway, the steepest railway in the world and ride up to the valley rim.

Jan 26th is Australia Day. Walking around the city, we saw a lot of people wearing Australian T-shirt, having flags !!! As usual, the pub was full of people drinking beer, mate !!! Me and Lee joined the free, live performances by the evocative and unique Kate Miller-Heidke at the main stage at the rocks.

Me and Lee Phong went to midnight mass at St Mary Cathedral, one of the most beautiful church in Sydney. Carol singing started at 11'35p.m. When the mass was over around 1a.m, it was heavily raining. We ate Burger at Hungry Jack and came back home around 4a.m... Merry Christmas !

Harbour Bridge is one of the most famous tourist places in Sydney. To my surprised, some people were climbing up the stairs of the bridge... holly shit !!! !!! wanna try ?
Harbor Bridge:
It is the world's largest (but not the longest) steel arch bridge with the top of the bridge standing 134 metres above the harbour.
Climbing bridge started in 1998 and attracts tourists and locals alike to climb the monument. After climbing through catwalks and up ladders and stairs, the view is absolutely breathtaking.

One thing Newtown is famous for is gay people. Today, I saw girls holding hands. well, that's ok !! I do not care. hahaha..

Newtown:

The area degenerated from the 20s, becoming poorer and poorer. The 1960s were considered the low point for the area - it was basically considered a 'no-go' zone for fear of your life. Quite tragic for such a historical suburb!
Since then however, the area's location to the city and have resulted in it cleaning up its act. Culturally Newtown is like no other in Australia. We prefer to see it is a melting pot of society - walking down King Street you can pass gay couple, junkies and weirdoes, bums. There is an air of tolerance about this place. You can tell there is no expectation either way - you can be whoever you want to be in Newtown. Newtown attracts me.

The building has become an icon for the university of sydney and is instantly recognisable. The main quadrangle was actually built over three stages. I arrived at Sydney on July 11th and have stayed in Hostel located in Newtown. Hostel is designed and built for budget travellers. They have super cheap rate( $20/ night ) for long term stayers. I have stayed at the dorm style, having 6 beds and bathroom. Three girls from Europe & one from China !!!

On the first day, I was reading the book in the kitchen, while Lee Feong from Singapole was sitting in front of the computer. I didn't talk to her because I didn't want to inturpt her. hahaa.. the next day, enrolement day for the students in the Faculty of Education in Social Work, I met her there. haha.. we laughted and talked. On Friday night, me, Fei from China and Lee Feong from Singapole had a cup of tea at the cafe in the night.

I fly to Sydney via Seoul with Korean Airlines. I stop off at Innie's house in Seoul. She shows me around Seo Hyeon area and Seoul city. Thanks, mate ! On the first day, She took us to the traditional Korean restaurant. We had Samgyetang which is traditional chicken soup. yummy yummy.. chicken and sweet rice make a good combination !!!

The grand forefather of Yanagawa's feudal lords is Muneshige Tachibana, the 2nd Tachibana descendant. During the Sengoku period (1470 - 1568) Kyushu fell under the control of Hideyoshi Toyotomi. When Muneshige fought on Hideyoshi's side and led Otomo Bungo's advance guard to win a clinching battle, he was rewarded with Yanagawa to establish his domain and castle in.
In 1697 Akitora Tachibana, the 4th descendant of the Tachibana family, ordered construction on a site measuring about 23,000m2 surrounded on all four sides by canals, and built the Shukeitei villa and grounds there. But the area had always been known as "Hanabatake", or "flower field". This name was subsequently abbreviated by locals to "Ohana" or "flower",

On February 18th, we left wonderful Japanese inn. We walked around and found this stem bath.
A popular site in Kannawa hot springs 'mushiyu' steam bath has long served as a welcome facility for local citizens. 'Ashimushi' (foot steam bath), a rarity in the country, is effective in relieving fatigued lower limbs. 'Sekisho' (medical herb) room is also popular for its soothing aroma.
When we had foot steam bath, the old guy next to me asked me, " Are you from Thailand ? "
I said, " YES "
so, I answered in English all the time....

We promised to be at the subway station at 1p.m. ahahah.... Innie.. that was funny !!! I arrived there earlier than I expected. So, I went to the toilet to make up... well. to my suprised, Innie was also in the toilet to make up... ahahahhahaah!!!!!!! So funny !!!! We hugged in the toilet .....
We had lunch at the buffet restaurant called " SLOW". Innie said, " wow... this restaurant name is so cool !!!!! you know, we should eat slow and enjoy our lives ! " YES, exactly !!!!! What I liked most was this chocolate fountain ! Look at that !!
We chatted over a cup of tea with Rika, and Y senpai in the Chinese cafe.
In the night, we picked up Winnie at the airport. Our heart raced with excitement.

The Borobodur Temple complex is one of the greatest monuments in the world. It was built around the seventh century A.D. For about a century and a half it was the spiritual centre of Buddhism in Java, then it was lost until its rediscovery in the eighteenth century. The structure, composed of 55,000 square meters of lava-rock is erected on a hill in the form of a stepped-pyramid of six rectangular storeys, three circular terraces and a central stupa forming the summit. The whole structure is in the form of a lotus, the sacred flower of Buddha.

For each direction there are ninety-two Dhyani Buddha statues and 1,460 relief scenes. The lowest level has 160 reliefs depicting cause and effect; the middle level contains various stories of the Buddha's life from the Jataka Tales; the highest level has no reliefs or decorations whatsoever but has a balcony, square in shape with round walls: a circle without beginning or end. Here is the place of the ninety-two Vajrasattvas or Dhyani Buddhas tucked into small stupas. Each of these statues has a mudra (hand gesture) indicating one of the five directions: east, with the mudra of calling the earth to witness; south, with the hand position of blessing; west, with the gesture of meditation; north, the mudra of fearlessness; and the centre with the gesture of teaching.

Know about Mt. Bromo
Bromo isn't the highest mountain in Java but it's probably the most famous one. Bromo is in fact only one of many peaks inside the massive Tengger Caldera, but it's easily recognized as the entire top has been blown off and the crater inside constantly belches white sulphurous smoke.
How to get there
The nearest larger town is Probolinggo on the north coast of Java. It's about one hour from Probolinggo to Ngadisari and another half hour all the way to Cemoro Lawang, and it's (just) possible to visit on a day trip, although most visitors prefer to climb overnight and see the sunrise. M- san is one of these visitors who climbed up in the morning and see the sunrise on his birthday. hallelujuah...

Prambanan is the largest Hindu temple compound in Indonesia, located in Java. It was built around 850 CE by either Rakai Pikatan, king of the second Mataram dynasty or Sambu, during the Sanjaya dynasty. Not long after its construction, the temple was abandoned and began to deteriorate. Reconstruction of the compound began in 1918. A temple will only be rebuilt if at least 75% of the original stones are available. Therefore only their foundation walls of most of the smaller shrines are visible and they will not be rebuilt. The temple was damaged during the earthquake in Java in 2006.

Me and my mom spent all day to make Osechi-ryori on December 31st. My mom is a good cooker! So, she sometimes scolds me for not cooking very well... I am not a good student, as I am clumsy >~<>

Osechi-ryōri are traditional Japanese New Year foods. The tradition started in the Heian Period(794-1185). The dishes that make up osechi each have a special meaning celebrating the New Year. Well, I give a few examples ! ( Can you recognize these dishes in the pic ? )

①Datemaki：

sweet rolled omelette mixed with fish paste or mashed shrimp. They symbolize a wish for many auspicious days.

②Kamaboko ：

broiled fish paste. Traditionally, slices of red and white kamaboko are alternated in rows or arranged in a pattern. The color and shape are reminiscent of the rising sun, and have a celebratory, festive meaning.
③Kazunoko ：

herring roe. Kazu means "number" and ko means "child". It symbolizes a wish to be gifted with numerous children in the New Year.
④Konbu ：

a kind of seaweed. It is associated with the word yorokobu, meaning "joy".
⑤Kuro-mame ：

black soybeans. Mame also means "health," symbolizing a wish for health in the New Year.
⑥Tazukuri ：

dried sardines cooked in soy sauce. The literal meaning of the kanji in tazukuri is "rice paddy maker", as the fish were used historically to fertilize rice fields. The symbolism is of an abundant harvest.
